Organic Matters

Events and open days

Standing in a paddock does more than any amount of reading. Open gates, field days, workshops and markets — most of them free, and nobody minds questions.

This calendar carries events we can point at a source for. There are open days and markets happening around the country this weekend — they are not here because we have not verified them, and a calendar of plausible-looking entries nobody checked would be worse than an empty one.

YOGAA inaugural midwinter sociale

Fri, 12 June 2026 · From 3:45pm
Monavale Organic Blueberries, Cambridge · $50 · dinner and farm tour included

The first gathering of Young Organic Growers Aotearoa — around 70 members had signed up before the doors opened.

YOGAA's founding meeting, held at a BioGro-certified blueberry orchard in the Waikato. The alliance is for organic growers and farmers aged 40 and under, and was set up on a simple premise: organic growers frequently work in isolation, and a peer group lets them solve problems together, push on advocacy and policy, and look after each other. Members at launch were mainly vegetable growers, with the alliance actively seeking people from animal protein and viticulture. Reported by Farmers Weekly, May 2026. The alliance now has a website at yogaa.co.nz, where the current membership definition and their Organic Looks Good On You campaign live.

Farm gates that are open anyway

Plenty of producers welcome visitors without running a formal event. Their profiles say when, and whether the ground suits a wheelchair or a pram.
