Common questions
Including the awkward ones. Where the evidence is genuinely unsettled the answer says so rather than picking the flattering reading.
Is organic food actually better for me?
It reliably lowers your dietary pesticide exposure — residues are around four times more common in conventional crops — and organic crops test higher in antioxidants and lower in cadmium. Whether that translates into measurable health outcomes for an individual is still being studied, and we will not overstate it. The environmental benefits are far better established.
Isn't organic just more expensive?
Often, but much less so in season and bought direct. The premium is largest on out-of-season supermarket produce.
Why list uncertified growers at all?
Because certification costs fall hardest on the smallest producers, and excluding them would hide some of the best growing in the country. Uncertified profiles are clearly marked as such and must publish their actual practices. We never let an uncertified producer imply certification.
Can organic farming feed everyone?
Organic yields are lower for some crops and comparable for others. But global food systems currently lose or waste roughly a third of output and devote a large share of cropland to animal feed and fuel. Yield per hectare is only one variable, and soil that still functions in 2075 is another.
How do I know a certification badge is real?
Every certified profile shows the scheme and the certificate number. You can verify any number directly with BioGro, AsureQuality, Demeter or OrganicFarmNZ, and the link to do it is on the profile. We re-check certifications annually and mark lapsed ones immediately.
Who owns this platform and my data?
Growers own their profile content outright and can export or delete it at any time. We do not sell data, run third-party ad networks, or track behaviour across the web.
I'm a conventional farmer. Is this for me too?
Yes. Conversion is a three-year financial leap and the useful thing is somebody who has already made it. The regional networks exist for exactly that, and nobody on this platform is interested in lecturing you.
