What money cannot buy here
Producers pay for tools. Partners pay for association and audience. Nobody pays for credibility. This page is the whole of that, and every line of it is a rule in the database rather than an intention.
Three labels, and no others
Anything on this site that involves money carries one of these. They never blur, and there is no fourth — adding one is refused by the database, not by a reviewer remembering.
A farm whose organic certificate we have checked against the certifier's own public register, on the date shown. Nothing about this is bought.
An organisation that pays to be associated with organic in New Zealand. It is not a farm, it is not certified by us, and paying does not make it either.
Somebody paid for this particular placement. It is never styled as editorial and it never changes the order of a search result or the map.
What is actually for sale
- A producer's listing
- Free, forever, for every farm in the country — certified or not. Cost is never the reason a farm is not found.
- A place in the organic directory
- Not for sale at any price. The map, the searches and anything a consumer reads as organic are for certified and in-conversion producers only. Money has never moved a farm into it and cannot.
- Grower+ and Producer Pro
- Tools for selling — products, prices, availability, enquiries, and the numbers that say whether any of it worked.
- A campaign
- A labelled band, for a stated stretch, bought once. Not a monthly plan.
- A partnership
- A page, a named place in a guide, a labelled band. Association and audience.
What none of it buys
- A position. Not in a search result, not on the map, not in the order of any list. Search order is relevance and distance. Four separate constraints refuse a tier feature, a tier capability, a campaign surface or a partner benefit that even mentions rank, priority or placement.
- Being in the directory at all. That is free and stays free. One distinction is worth drawing plainly: the product catalogue is a paid tool, and the search on Shop and visit searches catalogues — so a farm that pays can be found that way and a farm that does not cannot. Every other route to a farm — the directory, the map, near you, the regions, the site-wide search — is open to all of them equally, and nothing anywhere orders by what anybody paid.
- A certificate. Certification comes from a certifier and is checked against their own public register. A partner is a different table with no certificate field, so no amount of money can put one on the farm map.
- Editorial. No article, review or mention is for sale. A partner benefit offering one is refused at the database.
- A badge. Member badges are computed from what somebody has actually done and are never stored, so there is no row to award.
Who we take money from
- Advertising is sold only to certified organic producers, in-conversion producers, certifiers, Organic Matters partners, and organic sector organisations.
- We will not accept advertising from synthetic agrichemical companies, or from brands making unverified 'natural' or 'eco' claims.
- Every advertisement is visibly labelled. Nothing is ever styled to look like editorial or like a producer's own post.
- Ad revenue keeps the basic listing free for every producer in the country.
- No behavioural tracking, no third-party ad networks, no data sold. Targeting is by region and section only.
If we ever break this
Write to hello@organicmatters.nz and say so plainly. A platform whose only asset is being believed has no business being defensive about the question.
