The growing community

🫐 It started with a blueberry.
More than 40 years ago, our family began growing blueberries here in the Waikato.
But we made a decision very early on.
We wanted to grow them organically.
No synthetic pesticides.
No synthetic herbicides.
No synthetic fungicides.
No GMOs.
Back then, organic wasn’t fashionable. It wasn’t a supermarket trend. And there certainly wasn’t the consumer demand for organic food that exists today.
We simply believed there had to be a better way to grow food.
Four decades later, that belief is still at the heart of Monavale Blueberries.
Today, thousands of blueberry plants grow across our family orchard, and every season another generation gets to continue what was started all those years ago.
A lot has changed.
The reason we grow organically hasn’t.
🫐🌱 Every choice matters.

“It Starts Here — Welcome to the Organic Matters Community.”
Well… here it is. 🌱
The very first post on the Organic Matters Community!
I’m incredibly excited to finally be writing this.
Organic Matters started with a simple idea and a belief that has grown stronger the more I’ve worked on it:
The choices we make about our food matter.
They matter to our health.
They matter to our families.
They matter to our farmers and growers.
They matter to our soil, our water and our environment.
And they matter to the generations that come after us.
Today, we’re taking another step forward with the launch of the Organic Matters Community.
I don't want Organic Matters to simply be a website people visit. I want it to become a community people are part of.
A place to ask questions, share experiences, exchange knowledge, discover organic growers and producers, talk openly about food and farming, celebrate the people doing great things, and help make organic easier for everyone to understand and choose.
And the exciting thing is…
We get to build it together.
Every community has to start somewhere.
Every movement starts with people willing to have a conversation.
And every great idea starts with someone taking the first step.
This is ours.
I genuinely can't wait to see who joins us, what conversations happen here, what we learn from each other and, most importantly, where we can take Organic Matters together.
So here's to the first post, the first conversation, and hopefully the beginning of something very special.
Welcome to the Organic Matters Community. 🌱
Organic Matters. Every choice matters.

Why organics?
Nobody was converted to this by a statistic. These are members' own words, unedited, published because each of them chose to.
